What is CapTel?

Short for Captioned Telephone, CapTel is a telephone designed for people with hearing loss. It works like other amplified telephones, with an important addition: Every word your caller says is displayed on the CapTel screen to read. Similar to closed captioning for TV.

Doug Renz

I’m Doug Renz and I joined the OEI Team in 2019. I truly enjoy meeting so many amazing Georgians of all ages through my work with CapTel Outreach. One of my favorite installs was for a 95-year-old Veteran who served in three wars. Every individual I meet has a story to share about their life and family, and I am honored to be able help so many people with hearing loss communicate again with their friends and family. Originally from Rochester, New York, in my free-time, I love to spend time camping with my family in Rural Georgia.
